A Message from our Principal

Hello Barker Creek Families -
It’s hard to believe it is October and that we are nearing some “ends” and some “beginnings” here!

For our classroom and virtual high school students, we are about to enter the final week of Hex 1. It is very exciting to see the green “Hex Checkout” forms that signify the focused work of so many of our students as they finish classes and earn those important credits. For both classroom and virtual, we have celebrated multiple students who have graduated high school! We even had one student who finished with us and headed straight to Basic Training!

We are excited for our high school students to start Hex 2 October 19th!

Speaking of “beginning” something, for our K-8 students we are so excited for Friday Enrichment to begin on October 16th! We have over 140 students coming in to learn, work together and make friends. We have 9 teachers leading these classrooms, along with 9 other staff supporting students throughout the day. The Parent Partnership staff have been working the entire month of September to prepare for this all-important program and we hope to give our K-8 students the best Fridays ever, all year long!

As principal, I have observed, witnessed and lived the “community” in the 3 Cs that make up Barker Creek. It is so fun to brag about the positive impacts that a student or family who walks through the door will get when they interact with our staff. We cannot wait to meet you all at Fall conferences later in October!

WE are ALL IN!
Mr. Willson

World Language Proficiency Testing

Test Date is November 4, 2026
Registration closes October 16, 2026
If you are a student in grades 9 through 12 in Central Kitsap School District, you can earn high school credit in a world language by successfully passing district-approved assessments and demonstrating your language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the language.

Students may:
  • Earn proficiency-based high school credits and meet the world language credit requirement for graduation
  • Qualify for the Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma

Family Conferences

Classroom-based teachers are busy reaching out to families to schedule Conferences, held October 22 and 23. Invitations to sign up are being sent out via ParentSquare. Please feel free to contact your student's Advisory teacher if you have not been scheduled yet.

Conferences for the Parent Partnership and Virtual Academy programs are ongoing throughout the month of October and are scheduled directly with your teacher.

Unsure of how to contact your student's teacher? Visit our Staff Directory on the Barker Creek website.

Support for BCCS Families

We understand that times can be tough — no matter the challenges, we want you to know you’re not alone.

Students have access to a collection of hygiene products, school supplies, our comfort closet for clothing needs, food bank, washer/dryer, shower facilities, and free breakfast and lunch while on campus during mealtimes (7:30-8:00am & 11:00-11:35am).
All students have access to these resources, no questions asked.

Community Partnerships
  • Backpacks4Kids provides monthly food boxes to families.
  • Drew's Crew (PDF flyer) provides Thanksgiving meals to families across the Central Kitsap School District.
  • Pacific Northwest Title has a longstanding partnership with BCCS, providing holiday gifts for families.

If you are interested in any of our community partnership resources, please contact our Office Manager, Bri Braverman, at 360-622-2570 ext 2572.

For additional community resources, please see the Resources & Quick Links section below.

Pre-Ets Workshops -- Please Join Us!

Pre-ETS Self-Advocacy and Job Readiness workshops are returning to Barker Creek in October, twice a month, in person. We are partnering with Tessera for in-person workshops. A virtual option over Zoom will be offered in January 2027.

If your student has a documented disability (ADHD, for example), an IEP or 504, and would like support in getting ready for a job or looking for a job, please contact your student's homeroom teacher or Ms. Greeson (aprilg@ckschools.org). If you aren't sure if your student is eligible, talk with your homeroom teacher or Ms. Greeson.

REMINDER: Impact Aid

Every year, Central Kitsap School District applies for federal Impact Aid funding. These funds make up for the local tax dollars we lose because of tax-exempt federal property.

The results of our Impact Aid survey support this request and are critical to our district's resources for students.

Please complete the form as soon as possible by logging into the PowerSchool Parent Portal, where the online forms for your students are available. To learn more, visit https://www.ckschools.org/impactaid or email ImpactAid@ckschools.org. Thank you for your cooperation!
