Our Parent Partnership Program creates a powerful union between home and school. The program includes students in kindergarten through 8th grade. With guidance from a teacher/consultant, parents are able to offer individualized instruction to their children. Elementary students can also participate in weekly Enrichment opportunities.

Students in grades 3-8 are required to participate in state testing.

We offer academic support for students who need it, including a math tutor for secondary students. Your child can graduate from our program with a diploma from Barker Creek Community School. Your high school-age child has the option to participate in the Running Start program through Olympic College and West Sound Technical Skills Center.

How the Program Works

At the beginning of the year, you and a state-certified teacher (your consultant) work together to create a Written Student Learning Plan (WSLP). The plan includes the subjects you will teach at home and your student’s monthly goals.  By joining the Parent Partnership Program, you can check out textbooks and other materials. These are the same materials used in our other CK schools. Parents are responsible for their child’s daily lessons and skill development. Students complete end of chapter tests as well as other required standardized tests.

Full-time students are required to spend at least 25 hours a week in learning activities in grades 3-8 and 20 hours in kindergarten -2nd grade. High school credits earned are applied to an official district transcript.

You and/or your child will meet with a consultant each month. Together, you will review your child’s progress based on the WSLP.  Students are required to make weekly contact with their consultant to report progress, take tests or for other learning activities. The consultant will offer suggestions to help you provide the best possible education for your child.

Friday Enrichment Classes

Weekly Enrichment classes are offered for kindergarten through 8th grade. Students are involved in a variety of activities in these classes including gardening, computer programming, Lego robotics, Spanish, and  painting just to name a few. Our secondary students do science with an emphasis on microscopy and computer lab simulations.

Students can also join in on the many field trips offered throughout the year. This year we have toured the state capital and learned about how our government works, attended the musical The Little Mermaid, learned about salmon at Grover’s Creek, immersed ourselves in the exhibits at Gig Harbor’s History Museum, and visited the Seattle Aquarium. Our last adventure for the school year was a trip to the Sea Discovery Center in Poulsbo.
